The youngest of five children of Sudanese parents, Bas was born in Paris and came of age in Queens, NY. His musical tastes shaped by a mixture of gritty New York City raps and his brother DJ MOMA’s love for euro soul, UK garage sound and AfroBeats. Bas started rapping in 2010 with a unique style all his own that he has been cultivating ever since. Initially picking up the mic at the urging of his friends, Bas quickly gained acclaim through his Quarter Water Raised Me series of mixtapes and a well-earned feature on J. Cole’s platinum sophomore album, Born Sinner. His ascendance was punctuated when in 2014, he became the first artist signed to Cole’s Dreamville imprint under Interscope.
His debut project, Last Winter, arrived in April 2014 to much fanfare, and he took the album around the country on the “Last Winter” tour in June followed by a supporting slot on Ab-Soul’s “These Days” tour that fall. As an opening act on the J. Cole’s 2015 “Forest Hills Drive” tour, Bas touched the stage around the world and continued honing his craft while working on his official major label debut album. He officially released Too High To Riot in March of 2016 to much critical acclaim, and that summer set out to headline his own tour through North America and Europe, where he was joined by frequent fellow Dreamvillains Cozz and Earthgang as well as frequent collaborators the Hics and Ron Gilmore. Bas joined J. Cole on the “4 Your Eyes Only” tour in 2017, as he continued to spread his sound through stadiums around North America as well as bringing his music to Australia and New Zealand for the first time.
Following a host of festival performances around Europe throughout the summer of 2018, Bas released his most decorated work to date in August 2018, with his second album, Milky Way. Headlined by summer anthems like the Cole assisted “Tribe” and “Boca Raton” with ASAP Ferg, the album explored new territory as Bas’s uniquely global ear took his sound in a previously unexplored direction sonically. This fall, Bas is back on the road with Rexx Life Raj and Innanet James as he brings the sounds of the Milky way to 75 cities around the US and Europe.
